Grand Jury Takes No Action On Merritt Landry Case

SIAP, I searched and found nothing.
The Orleans Parish Grand Jury, for a second time, has taken no action and failed to return a true bill in the attempted murder case against Merritt Landry.
Today's Article
If you don't remember, he shot a 14 y/o kid (with a great headshot btw) in his backyard that was trying to break into his house in the Marigny. The kid lived but is brain damaged if I remember correctly.
Original Story
The DA's office will most likely drop the case pretty soon, if not by the end of the week.
I'm sure Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson will be in town drumming up publicity sometime in the near future. The family of course claims he was a good boy. He had a nice record of burglaries, etc. but "wasn't known to carry a gun." TRAYVONS!
That's Coulter; sure as hell doesn't look like a nice 14 y/o kid.

Do the crime, brain is turned to slime

Good. However, the TP deliberately distorted the headline to read as if Landry had taken a potshot at some kid playing jump rope out in the street.

To whomever keeps downvoting every post I make, go frick yourself. Come forward and admit you're against people defending their property and their pregnant wives.

What is the LA law regarding shooting unarmed home intruders? I know it is legal in TX.
OT?
OT?

No worries. Civil case will ensue.

Shame on the spineless DA for taking this to a grand jury a second time. Shouldn't have done it at all.

LA has a Castle Doctrine and Stand-Your-Ground laws. You have the right to defend your property against a trespasser and can use lethal force if you're threatened.
There's definitely more to it but that's the jist. The issue with this case was whether or not Merritt was actually threatened and the criminal intent of Coulter.

I seriously doubt the kid's family has that type of money and finding a good lawyer to do it on contingency would be pretty difficult.
Not to mention the Landry's have a good bit of money and a nice bit of clout. They're St. Bernard royalty.

It really isn't a win, as the grand jury merely failed to go either way. The only reason this is a story is because this month's jury is now done, and the process will very likely start again with the March grand jury until there's an indictment or no true bill.

I realize that but how long do you think they'll keep bringing it before the grand jury before the DA drops the case? He's out on bond so I'm guessing quite awhile?

Possible, but I doubt they would prevail.
As in the Martin case, all the deceased's criminal record would be made public in the trial. The Martin's aren't going to bring a civil case and I doubt these folks will either.
