What's the deal with Jordan Mickey and his mouthpiece?

I've been waiting all year for someone to bring this up...every time the camera is on him during pause in the action, he's messing with the mouth-guard- it's in, it's out, it's bugging him somehow, it looks dirty, like there's cookie crumbs all up in it...WTF? Does it fit right? Does it hurt his gums? What are the dark specks? Can't we get him one that fits and doesn't look old&gross on TV?

Are you certain, or just guessing? Because sneaking cookies during breaks would be a better answer, and it sure doesn't look like anything legible.
Or maybe he's eating cookies and that's why the LSU is hard to read.

I sat in front of and talked to his GF tonight. She didn't say anything about his mouthpiece but did tell me that he really enjoys LSU and plans on hanging around for a while. 
I told her to push for 2 more years at least!

I believe a few players wear mouthpieces, however Mickey plays with it. Not sure whether its a nervous thing or just a habit at this point.
They do have the letters LSU across the front. I can't find the picture but someone got a great photo of him running down the court with it halfway out with the letters hitting you in the face.
