I mean when you think of what's the worst thing you could do as a punter? Give them good field position? Yea that's not wanted but compare that to what the worst case is for other positions in sports.
If it gets blocked or returned it's generally not looked at as your fault, and your team is giving the ball to the other team anyway.

If the gameplan goes well you never even get on the field.

As long as you don't straight up not catch the snap, there isn't much pressure at all compared to pretty much any other position in sports

Also, this isn't me saying it's easy, I know that it's not

At first it would seem intimidating.

But if you had faith in your snapper and 2 seconds faith in your oline, I can imagine a punter having a pretty routine job.

Shanetheleglechler should be apart of this discussion tho.

seems like you can get cut in the NFL pretty easily. didn't the jets punter get cut for simply kicking to to the return man?

Yes. You can't screw up THAT bad. If you shank a punt, the defense still has a chance to fix the mistake.

Wouldn't the long-snapper even be easier? Just snap the ball to the punter...you're done. It's a bonus if you keep your head down and draw a 15 yard penalty once a year

That's a pretty good point, they can't even rush the long snapper

Well, it is the epitome of "YOU HAVE ONE JOB" but I see your point.

Long snapper seems more stressful to me.

field goal holder=least pressure. It's usually a starting or backup QB, though. Holder never gets the blame unless your name is Tony Romo.

I mean, they made a whole movie about it.

If you compare worst scenario for punter vs. long snapper though I think long snapper has more pressure.
I would say it is more likely a long snapper makes a bad snap that effects the play than a punter drops the snap

Ehh not sure.

Punters also have a really short leash. Bad punt in a clutch moment and it costs you the game, your cut.

a lot of times punters have to try to tackle a return man as the last hope of preventing a touchdown. they dont really get the blame if the guy scores, but it's still some personal pressure

back up or 3rd string QB has to be up there. Everyone expects you to suck if you have to play, so anything good you do is a pleasant surprise.

of all starters, or players that have significant playing time every week...gotta be the long snapper. You snap it and block for 2 seconds.

Punters have to worry about catching, punting it correctly, going away from a good returner, not shanking it, and even making a last ditch tackle.

It's close.

I figure the long snapper, even if he makes a bad snap, there's a chance the punter can save him somehow.

I guess I just think you aren't going to screw up many snaps, but even a good punter screws up kicks. And if you screw up a kick, it is more likely you will feel the pressure to not screw up the next one, then SHANK

I've always said that when I have a son, I will teach him to punt the ball when he can walk. Let him become a master punter.

I am going to chain mine to the street light every day/night until he punts 100 balls.

Kick a line drive to a good return man who houses it on you.

The least pressure filled job has to be a kicker who only kicks off.
