LSU Football Staff Changes

LSU lost another member of its coaching staff this past week. Special teams assistant August Mangin recently took the Special Teams Coordinator position at Northwestern State.
Mangin helped drive LSU to their 2007 national championship as a player, lining up at fullback. As an assistant he was instrumental in molding one of the nation's most feared special teams squads in 2011 which propelled LSU to a 13-1 record.

Guys moving up from assistant to full fledged coaching titles at other places is a good thing.

Thanks for your services Mr. Mangin.

Well, not sure what to say since I've never heard of this guy. Guaranteed 99.9% of LSU fans havent either.

It was nice of him to join the site just to tell us he was moving on though.

Agreed. Certainly wish him well. I love to see LSU staffers move up the ladder.

That's the typical path for grad type assistants.
Earn your stripes at a big program and get a real job at a smaller school, pay your dues, and work your way up the ladder. Breaking into coaching profession is not easy.

That's weird that they mention him as playing fullback in 2007. Most of the time it was Johnson; Shawn Jordan came in sometimes, and Hester would slide up every now and then.

His twitter
Seems like a good dude with a good head on his shoulders. Wish him the best. Thanks for you time at LSU.

I didn't even know about this guy. Interesting name, there - I knew a guy back in the late 70s who was a walk-on from Michigan with that surname.

I also helped drive by spending $'s on tickets and lining up at upper deck top rows, providing a birds eye view of the action.
