Closing on a house question

So, I have a walkthru today with the closing scheduled Friday. What issues found during a walktheu would constitute a valid reason to not close ? If I push closing back even a day I save 2k due to rent on old house. However the builder wants to close Friday because it's the end of their quarter and they want the house off their books. I got 40k in incentives to agree to this closing date but I am not moving into an unfinished house. So. What would make you say "nope. It's not done".

I see your point, I do, but its looking like the backsplash wont be grouted, the tile in the master shower is incomplete (as of yesterday) I'll have a temporary front door cause they waited too long to order mine. The home automation system wont be in yet. Possibly no sod and irrigation, banisters not stained, and a bunch of other nit picky stuff

Are you wanting to push it back because you're worried that after closing they won't fix any issues you discover during the walkthrough? Or are you trying to push it back so you can get your 2K, and want to find a "legitimate" reason so that they still have to honor the 40K in incentives y'all agreed on?
If it's the former, most builders are contractually obligated to fix issues that are found, well past closing. The warranty will set the window for that. So as long as the issues you find don't prevent you from moving in, go forward.
If it's the latter, don't be a douche, honor your commitments. 2K isn't worth the hassle.

Isn't all that stuff part of your agreed upon price? If so, they will still install it all after you close. I'm not seeing the issue here besides you trying to be a weasle about $2k after taking $40k in incentives to close at a certain time.

Yes, all that stuff was specd out from the get go. They have 4 closings today and 4 tomorrow and 4 friday I think they kinda jumped the gun on what they could actually finish. Would you move into a brand new home where you couldnt use the master shower?

That's a huge punchlist that I wouldn't close on personally.
I have been on both sides as a realtor and a contractor. Trust me when I say leaving such a huge punchlist because the contractor is in a hurry is a mess on both sides.
Here is what happens...now the contractor has no incentive to finish those things and also now has to work around your schedule so finishing things slows down drastically. You also move into the new house and start to notice things you didn't on the initial walkthrough so you ask them to add it to the punchlist. You also now have to do a punchlist on the things they are working on as they get finished. You now add days or even weeks onto having a your house to a satisfactory level and you are already living in it.
Worse case next thing you know you are having to get the realtor involved and even send demand letters via your attorney. It can get ugly quick.

I've had 34 items on a punch list to close, and the builder knocked it out in about 8 hours. Looked like a Mexican fire drill, but they got it done.
Go ahead and close, you've got a year warranty I'm sure
Edit - No, I wouldn't close on a house with an unusualble shower or any plumbing for that matter

I wouldn't close. There are 12 houses that probably have a similar punch list.

I've seen builders work miracles to meet closing deadlines.
Don't count on him not completing a punch list. How would

Hmmmm....that list does make me second guess going ahead w the closing... lots to still be done
