Fallon's first week on the job had the most viewers of any week of the Tonight Show in 20 years (when NBC had the Cheers finale leading into it). Averaged 8.49 million viewers. Had a 2.8 rating in the target demo (18-49)

For comparison, other opening weeks:
Conan- 6.4 million
Leno's return- 5.8 million
Kimmel- 3.1 million

It helps when you put someone in the slot who is actually funny (Fallon) and not just some goofy oddball (Conan).

Conan is much, much funnier than Fallon. Fallon is probably still the better host, though.

And Seth Myers has better ratings than Fallon did as Late Night host. Better start grooming him for the Tonight Show spot and Fallon can take his show to Lifetime.

I have never found him to be laugh out loud funny. He'd make me laugh on occasion but I found Leno's monologues to be funnier than Conan's and I liked his presentation a whole hell of a lot better than Conan's. Not to mention the fact that Conan O'Brien played innocent victim back in 2009 after fighting and clawing nastily to get The Tonight Show in the early part of the last decade.

"Not to mention (and here's a reason that has nothing to do with comedic talent)."

Conan is one of the view late night hosts who came from the ranks of comedy writing and not stand up/performance comedy. So his style is a bit different

Fallon and Conan are both funny in different ways. I've never found Leno to be funny.

I like the styles of Conan and Fallon. Fallon is just straight up funny, and I like the fact that he laughs a lot and enjoys himself. Conan has the weird, quirky, uncomfortable humor that I also enjoy.

bullshite. This board made it quite clear in multiple threads that Fallon sucks. Said that anyone over the age of 30 would turn it off. Said he was no Carson.

Wait, people on the OT said Fallon was terrible and completely unfunny.

Fallon's ratings are about as believable as Obama's unemployment numbers.

on the tonight show he's hit or miss, but I saw him on Comedians in cars getting coffee and he seems pretty naturally funny the way he and Jerry played off each other

It helps to have the Olympics leading into your debut. Fallon will be much better than leno in my opinion. However I wouldn't crown Fallon just yet. NBC will frick this up somehow.

it helps to have fallon as your lead in.

i kind of agree with this statement. fallon is lighthearted and likable enough to make it work. is up for anything to make a laugh happen. but how will NBC come into play is a great point.

Conan isn't funny. He just does that same old shtick about being odd on purpose (ie crazy) and that's his entire persona.

Personally I prefer kimmel out of all of these with fallon second.

(Both far far worse than Colbert or Stewart if we're talking hosts in general though)

Kimmel is hilarious and has the best skits imo but Conan takes the cake as an interviewer. Kimmel just isn't that great of an interviewer and can really get off track and sometimes it can just be awkward. Fallon is really tough for me to watch as an interviewer and as a comedian. Luckily, he has some good writers and solid guests.

Leno's comedy is tantamount to forwarded emails from old people. A quick example that I found in my email: "How to tell if your dog is involved in a sex scandal!!!"

No. Conan's not even close to Fallon.

Seth's ratings are higher because of Fallon.

1) Preference is a generational thing, IMO. I'm 32 and i prefer Conan.
2) Fallon is a terrible host. He's funny at doing musical skits, but as an interviewer, it's awkward and forced, and he mumbles. Take his Timberlake interview. He's even friends with that guy and he was giggling the whole time. I just don't care for it. I also despise the Kid Craddock show on the radio because it's nothing but a bunch of idiots laughing for 4 hours straight at their own stupid jokes.
