How much should it cost to hire someone to put a little roof/awning like the one over the front door of this house cost with a couple of columns?

Rough estimate go...

Is the concrete porch/ wood porch already there or does it have to be built?

This. Its the site work that's a hidden cost people don't realize.

There is one there but it would need to be expanded by about a foot on each side.

I just completed a copper awning like that on an old historical home in lake Charles and it isn't a cheap job. For all the work total, it came in around 18,000. It took multiple contractors. It is always harder than it looks

Then you mean the old one has to be demo'd and a new one poured

Exactly.... you not going to pour a 1' slab onside of another slab...... that's going to look like shite.

Three-fiddy.

Eta: it's probably only worth it it you go all the way across with a porch. Need to demo existing dog house and rebuild new roof across. It's not going to be cheap.

you obviously know a lot about things. There are way too many variables in a job like that.

But obviously 5th tops you say. Alright.

I gave an example of a job very simular to the one posted. It could easily go over that

you will need dirt work, foundation, a concrete guy, carpenter (s) roofer and or metal guy for roofing. Permits and other small items.

Painting, what type of post, LOTS of questions need to be answered before any numbers

You're retarded, or a terrible GC if you charged someone 20 grand for that.

porch entrance ideas

op, here are some ideas.

As far as the retarded remark, I in no way told him that would cost that. I gave him an example of
what it could possibly be and giving him a range. Like anything else in the world, it can be as nice or normal as you want.

For any body to give this guy an estimate based on a picture is basically throwing a dart a board and seeing where it hits for a random number. These entries can be pretty extravagant and I have posted some examples in the link

There are a few good ideas for a nice entrance on the link.

Yea, he's not thet retarded one.

Anyway back to the topic, the guy quoted me for $1,650 for the painting? It's like 20 min. worth of painting and less than a gallon of paint. What am I missing?

Painting is a place you can save some money if you feel you can handle that.

Are they tearing off the existing?

are you using concrete columns?
They make some very nice fiberglass ones also.

Of your link the Hopek and Samples are probably closest to what we are wanting.

Basically what we have now is a crappy aluminum awning that is just bolted to the house. We want that down and a very small delta shaped roof with a couple of standard columns. I just don't see how that costs close to 10k.

What is so expensive? It's a few pieces of wood and beadboard, no?

I always assumed columns were made out of wood, but we hadn't picked those out yet.
