Recently watched for the first time for Film Class and I think it was a great great movie

But it was fricking brutal to watch. Just flat out hard to watch at times and some of it didnt seem real but it actually happened but I still liked it. I have no desire to re-watch it and that's the first time I've ever said that about a movie.

Thoughts?

One of the best films in recent history, for certain. As you said though, not something that easy to rewatch.

One of the greatest films ever made. Without question Spielberg's masterpiece, which saying a lot. Made my #3 in MWADS.

Incredible movie from start to finish, but it did feel a bit long winded.

Haven't seen it in years. Didn't it have parts of the movie in color, like a flower or something here and there? I didn't like that. It pulled me out of the movie.

Excellent movie. But, yes, tough to watch.

I seem to recall a story of a holocaust survivor visiting the set, and after seeing Ralph Fiennes play Amon Goeth so well, she said she actually felt afraid in front of him in uniform.

How he didn't win the best supporting actor award was beyond me, him and Ben Kingsley were fricking fantastic

It started in color, but the color faded at the precise moment the candle flickered out.

The ending, when they showed the descendants of the Schindler Jews, was also in color.

The only other thing in color was the little girl in the red coat.

Per Wiki:

quote:

Spielberg said the scene was intended to symbolise how members of the highest levels of government in the United States knew the Holocaust was occurring, yet did nothing to stop it. "It was as obvious as a little girl wearing a red coat, walking down the street, and yet nothing was done to bomb the German rail lines. Nothing was being done to slow down ... the annihilation of European Jewry," he said. "So that was my message in letting that scene be in color." Andy Patrizio of IGN notes that the point at which Schindler sees the girl's dead body is the point at which he changes, no longer seeing "the ash and soot of burning corpses piling up on his car as just an annoyance."

It's probably a top 5 movie for me. It wasn't far from my mind when I visited Dachau last year.

Ralph Fiennes has the villain role down pretty well...Amon Goth, Voldemort, and the guy in Red Dragon.

Schindlers List is one of those movies that everyone should watch at least once just to understand the horror of that time.

Liem Neeson's best movie also.

Schindler's List was about as powerful a movie as I've ever seen and is on my all-time Top 10 movies list. In fact, it sits in my Top 3.

one of the greatest films of our time, but as the OP mentioned, it's a tough film to watch. It's not one I keep going back to, that's for sure.
