For anyone who post here that grew up around the Jonesville-Monterey area, Mr. Ike Robertson passed away earlier today. He was like a grandfather to everyone around here. I have very fond memories growing up of a retired Mr. Ike just chomping at the bit to come in and substitute teach when a teacher was out for that day, and I think my favorite days in school were when he would come in to be the guest speaker in our social studies classes to tell his old war stories. He was the guy that taught your mom and dad in school, had coffee every morning at the store with your grandfather, and always wanted to hear your latest deer hunting stories. I thought the OB would appreciate this great, great man's story.

And let me tell ya, he could tell em in a way that made you feel like you were there. You'd constantly be getting on the edge your seat and ducking anytime he got to a part about taking on German fire

If anyone knows any of the old vets., go talk to them and thank them. I have lost my Dad and all my uncles that fought in WWII. They were indeed the Greatest Generation.
I miss every one of them.
I fear that we will never see another generation step up like those boys did. RIP Mr. Ike.

Couldn't agree more - these simple acts are not done nearly enough.

I'm sure you know the Bradford's in that area. Their father was named Ike as well.

Mr. Ike's Ouachita daughter was Josey's pre-school speech therapist who got rid of his slight stutter. She is friend of his mom's and sent nice note about little Josey after he passed. Could tell she came from good stock.
