Asia is dominating the Olympics. The last two bids went to Pyeongchang (2018) and Tokyo (2020). I'm sure both will do a fantastic job, though.

At least Japan and China have a developed nation and the resources for it. There is no reason a developing country should be hosting the Olympics.

You're talking about Russia, right? Or North Korea?

They should cohost with North Korea. It might be good for improving relations.

OP is probably talking about Brazil. Although if South Africa can handle the World Cup, Rio will probably be able to pull off the Olympics.

Pyeongchang's average temperature in February is 22F. South Korea's ability to build and run this event (if unmolested in the interim) will be impressive.

Japan will do well in 2020 too.

Just heard that on TV also. What will the skiers blame their mistakes on in 4 years?

I don't get it. Isn't 22 F about standard for most typical winter areas?

Well Brazil is hosting the WC this summer so it should be a nice indication of how it will go in 2 years.

re: Pyeongchang Olympics 2018
that is a very beautiful part of Korea...my GDP (for a unit that hasn't existed for the last 30+ years) was around there...fired an Honest John into the Sea of Japan just north of there during the summer of 1976

this is a good reason for the ROKs to improve their east-west road network...not sure what rail connections are in the area, but most of the major airports are on the other side of the peninsula...
