I got a ticket for speeding in a school zone this morning. Is it similar to new orleans in fact I can probably go to courthouse and get this reduced?

They take school zone and construction zone tickets seriously over here. Not sure about your chances of getting it reduced.

Not a chance in hell, just pay the fricking thing.

Not worried about the initial fine. Its the insurance i'd rather not jack up.

some cities will let you do a deferral and keep it off your record, however i think that option is void if the ticket is in a school zone.
What happen, did the flashing yellow lights not warn you?

figured the school zone might seal my fate. I go the same way at the same time everyday. I left hour early today and it was a tough way to realize they even had school zones.

Fines in a school zone are double

shite happens. I'm typically a very cautious driver. This is my first speeding ticket and I am 27.

If you haven't taken defensive driving in the last 12 months and weren't going 25mph above the school zone speed limit, you are fine. You should qualify for mandatory defensive driving (meaning court has to let you take it). Here's a link with the info. Follow it by the letter and save copies of everything. It will cost $140 in court fees, $25 (i think) for defensive driving class and another few bucks for some driving record that you have to order from TxDot. You will not owe the actual ticket fine. Have fun with 6 hours of boring online classes.

You can also request deferred disposition if you don't want to take the class (or were 25mph above the limit), but it more expensive and you are hosed if you get another ticket within a year. I'd do defensive driving and save deferred if you get another ticket within 12 months.

Make sure you request any of the above BEFORE your court date. Don't show up at the court and ask for either of these. You can do it all by mail.
You're welcome.
