Shouldn't the Saints hold all the cards with JG?

If he is asking for too much money, I'm sure there would be a team, like Oakland, that would be willing to pay him whatever he wants.
If the Saints' front office told JG they were going to trade him to Oakland for a 1st and 2nd or 1st and 3rd, wouldn't he automatically reconsider and take less money?
Graham should realize that playing with Drew Brees made him the player he is today. He should know that playing with a great QB like Brees and playing for a contender comes at a cost-- less money.
I do hope they come to a middle ground, but would be fine if they traded him.

they do hold the cards. They can franchise him and he can do nothing about it

Money is important. But te difference in money shouldn't be enough for jimmy to want to play for a shitty team with a shitty QB.
I guess it's easy for me to say that winning would be the most important thing since I've grown up with money and most NFL players have not.
Still, I would take a possible SB ring and HOF career (possible if he stays with Brees several more years) over a few million when I'm already absolutely loaded.

It's easy to assume from a fan's perspective, but you better believe I'm looking at the all the 0's on a potential move if I'm a player.

Perhaps. But I do plan on making Top NFL TE money at some point in my professional career.
If I was offered 13 mil a year to do a job that I hated (Jimmy with raiders or shitty team) versus a job that I loved at 10 mil per year (Jimmy with Saints), I would absolutely go with the latter. He also has the added incentive to be in the HOF and win a Super Bowl.
To me it is a no-brainer.

This is assuming you can continue to work as long as you would like. Jimmy is 27 years old and if he signs a 5 year contract it could be his last one or at least his only giant one. Also he could get injured (on the job or off) and never be able to play again.
If he could continue to play in the NFL until he was 65 it would make sense, but when you put your entire career at risk on every play you need to make the money now no matter what. One of the big reasons why guaranteed money is what the players typically hold out for.

I think there's very little chance of that. It's all about guaranteed money. If Oakland pays him $3 mill more a year but guarantees $10 mill more, where does he want to play...shitty team or not?

There is no 'I' in team, as they say, But there is ME. As in 'show me the money.' Unfortunately the majority of players don't care about the 'team' as they do getting paid. That's why you see a lot of players at the end of their careers trying to get on a contending team for that SB ring, but until they know their time is about up, they will always be about 'show me the money' and pretty much screw my current team's cap situation, cause 'I deserve it.'
And to hear these playerd say 'well I got bills to pay,' is a fricking joke. It must be hard paying bills making only 3 million a year instead of 7. Please. That's what makes the college game better. Just a fans opinion.

He can hold out until week 10 and get credited with a full year's participation in terms of the franchise tag. Would only cost him about $3.5m, which isn't much relative to what his next contract will be ($50m+).

Complete fan's perspective.
10M more dollars is still 10 million dollars. Invest that difference wisely and you acquire multi generations of financial security for you and your loved ones. Players as a whole look at it as their work... As they should. If I'm getting millions more to play for anther team you bet your arse I taking it. At the end of the day you're still getting paid to play a game and work out.
