I've played baseball and watched it for 30 years and I am still learning rules of the game. The most surprising to me is a tie doesn't go to the runner. That shocked the hell out of me. I looked up other rules and found too many to name that I knew nothing about.

A few that stuck out to me:
1.Tie doesn't go to the runner.
2.There is a such thing as a catcher balk.
3. Pitcher has only 20 seconds to pitch the ball. If he fails to do so, the batter is awarded first.

I feel like an idiot. Any others little known rules of baseball that people may not know?

I was not aware that a walk with bases loaded will give the batter credit for an RBI.

I just wonder who the a-hole was that started the whole tie goes to the runner myth?

I played catcher my whole life. They never call a balk on the catcher. I was warned many times for moving out of the catcher's box before the pitch was being delivered, but it's a rule they never really enforce.

I think I saw this once in my whole life of watching the baseball, primarily the Braves.

That's exactly how I feel. It's worse than when I found out the truth about Santa.

A homerun over the fence is probably an out for all I know. I just don't know what to believe anymore.

I had the hardest time understanding that a fly that hits the yellow stripe at Turner field isn't necessarily a home run. My life is a lie too.

This is never enforced.

A man with four balls cannot walk.

wait -- they went to the time, effort, and money to build an entire park dedicated to baseball and only baseball, and they still have a yellow stripe?

Read "As They See 'Em" by Bruce Weber.
Fantastic book about umpires. Lotta weird situations in there I wasn't aware of.

This almost happened in the LSU game last weekend. If the pitcher balks, but the pitcher is already in the process of throwing the ball to the plate, the ball is not dead. If the ball is hit into fair play (or wild pitch), the offense has the option of taking the result of the play, or the balk.

I think this weekend the opponents pitcher balked, threw a wild pitch, but the ump in the field seemed to be signaling dead ball. Bregaman almost scored from 2nd base on the wild pitch because the catcher didn't run after the ball.

If the ball hits the yellow line between the foul poles my understanding is that it isn't automatically a home run. Its just a hit if it bounces back in play.

Do or do not, there is no tie.

I think at one time, if the ball hit the yellow line it was a home run, which leads to some confusion.

I was aware that the run was scored but did not know it was officially tallied as an RBI.
