I was going down the road the other day and saw a flock of turkeys. One of them was completely white. I'm not a turkey hunter, so I tried to do a little digging online. Seems like it's pretty rare. Have any of you seen anything like that?

It happens from time to time. It can be a true albino wild turkey or sometimes its a domestic that got loose and joined a local flock.

Domestic breeding with wild is not rare either. Ive killed a few with white feathers mixed in.

I saw a guy kill one that looked half wild half domestic. Damn thing weighed about 27 lbs on the hoof. Rare a true wild turkey gets that big.

About 15 years ago when we hunted in St. Francisville i remember seeing one that was about 50% white, kinda weird looking.

Where i used to turkey hunt they had a peacock that was living with the turkeys. Can you imagine the fan if a eastern bred with a peacock!

Fun fact: Domestic turkeys actually can't mate anymore, due to breast size. I guess a wild male could still hit that, though.

Some wild turkeys do have unusual color phases that are there all the time or just when molting their feathers. Heres a pic of a smoke/grey phase turkey.

They are often confused with wild/domestic crosses but are indeed truly wild stock. I've only seen one in my lifetime.

There is a flock around here of about 18 birds and 2 of them are white in color. There aren't any domestic turkey around but I see these almost every day

It has to be genetics because the flick f about 15 hens that stays on our place always has one or two white / whiteish ones

I read about the white/smoke phase turkeys and this one is different. He didn't look as fat as a domestic turkey, but I suppose living in the wild would do that. Can you tell by looking? I took some pics and a video. Not great quality but maybe it would help???

We had an albino turkey in a flock around my grandpas house when I was growing up. He had cow feed in a lot that the turkeys would eat on around 9am every morning and my gramps watched them.

I think someone ended up shooting it though

Domestic turkeys usually have short fat almost club like feet from carrying all the extra weight and having minimal space to run about. Outside of that I dont know that I could tell a difference.
