After years in production with almost no news from id, an exposed article by Kotaku revealed that the development of Doom 4 has suffered for much of its duration, and was restarted completely in 2011.[5]

I just thought they canned it when Carmack left.

Don't know how I feel about Doom without him. Hopefully it's not like Halo without Bungie.

id software is well past its prime.

I figured the departure of Carmack would have killed the studio, honestly.

I will never forget time spent with the older iterations of quake and doom, but the newer entries just don't have the same appeal.

while I don't have a lot of hope for doom 4 carmack leaving shouldn't be the end of it. He could have finished his engine before he left that they are using. I know there is still work after that but that was the bulk of what he did.

It's not that I have hope in id making a new Doom but I'm for sure interested. Doom was the start of it all for me. I still remember my dad playing it when I was a kid, it looked so awesome but I wasn't allowed to play it because of the violence.

Doom and Duck Hunt got me into gaming.

Oh I know, pretty sure Doom holds a place in most gamers hearts that got into gaming in the 90's.

I went back and played it recently for the 20th anniversary for it. That shite is still fun.

It's pretty amazing how well it holds up. Just goes to show you how advanced id games were for the time.

Quake Wars was a shitty game, I don't think I've played anything by them since.

I'm not sure if Carmack was more valuable to the graphics or gameplay when he was with ID but it'll be interesting to watch how this unfolds.

He had rage run at 60fps on consoles, that in itself is amazing

Yeah it's pretty crazy what Carmack could do with hardware. I remember he got Doom3 to run on some ancient hardware for the time, he really knows how to squeeze out every last drop.

I'll see if I can find a screen for that shitty rig he got it to run on.
