I get how the Spec Trout transition to the inside during the fall and hunker down during the winter. How long do they stay inside and what triggers them to start heading out to bigger areas ?

When water temperature gets around 68 degrees they start moving out to higher salinity areas for spawning.

When they start moving, approximately how long before they are out to the bigger bays ? just asking so i know about when to fish intermediate areas. Appreciate the help. Wanted
to buy the book "Specks" but 200 is a little much for that.

They are usually out in the high salinity areas from around may-September but that depends on weather of course. The rest is fishing and finding them

fyi, they are still a fair number "outside" in the winter time. all it takes is mother nature cooperating wind-wise and a more normal temp setting than the arctic-like conditions we experienced this year. best of all, a lot of guys are deer/duck hunting so less comp.

Any chance you get that name from being at Venice Marina?
I learned many years ago how to quickly clean trout by watching that guy. The cleaning station at Venice Marina has his name hung on it.

Ole Mack used to stay in that travel trailer across from the boat sheds. Mack Brousseau. Good ole boy, just ate up with the sauce.

does anyone still use the "Spec Rigs"

Yes. There are certain times of the year that tandem rigs can be very productive.
