What's the best dog to get for running? Something a little smaller than a lab.

I'm starting to look for a pup. would like to get a good dog that I can take on runs with me. one with a short haired coat. one that isn't quite the size of a lab. feel like a lab is just too big for my living arrangements right now.

what does the OT dog people think?

TIA

Beagle if you want short hair. But Australian shepherds and border collies can run for days.

If you want to run form a dog, get a pittbull.

If you want to run after one ges an australian shepard.

my mix would run until he dropped dead if i were cruel.

also, watch the Herzog documentary Happy People, if you guys haven't. Those dogs are some serious runners.

We had one that was schizophrenic.

Damn dog was smart as hell, and you never knew what personality you were going to get on any day.

Made for interesting and frustrating times.

The best dog for running in my opinion is a Rhodesian Ridgeback. You can't wear them down plus they are tough as hell. If you can make an exception about their size (about the same as a lab).

I have a 3 year old vizsla. He's great for running if you've got a pretty quick pace. Not too big ( bout 50 lbs ). Awesome dog all around. Pretty smart.

vizsla

if you want a dog to start running now, get a 1+ year old rescue. Don't take puppies on long runs too early.
