Obviously criteria will change from person to person. It also doesn't have to be the sport you like the most.

I define the perfect sport as one where the objective is simple and intuitive, and the nature of the game is so logical that the sport doesn't require a ton of seemingly arbitrary rules to keep the game moving along. In otherwords, after a five minute explanation of the sport, would you have to keep saying "you cant do that"?

For me this is my list, with 1 being the most perfect. (I limited my list to widely known sports while also not including "events" such as sprinting)

1)Rugby-I feel like this is the basis of all sports. Its football without 100 years of rules additions. all you need is a ball which is a huge factor. Get the ball over there. So simple.

2)Soccer-Like rugby a sport that keeps going without a ton of stoppages. Dont touch it with your hands, dont be offsides. Go...more or less

3)Baseball-Seems like a lot of rules but really its 3 strikes, 4 balls, get to the base before the ball gets there.

4)Golf-Hit the ball in the hole, count your strokes, dont touch it unless you hit it.

5)Hockey-Would have been higher if you didnt need so much gear. Then you can tell the inventors of the game were like "That could be a problem, lets call it icing and make it illegal"

6)Football-So many rules, stoppage of plays, restrictions. 8 minutes of actual game play in two hour game? Rule changes every year. I love you football, so very much, but you are as fickle and complicated as a women. We may never perfect you.

7)Basketball-The inspiration behind these rankings. I was watching and thinking "what happened to this sport?" If your sport has an illegal act that happens like every 3rd play, resulting in everybody standing and watching a player shoot flatfooted, you've taken a wrong turn somewhere. The sport was so simple to start but it has by far the most red tape of any major sport.

Basketball to me shows more true athleticism than any other sport. I would be willing to bet more basketball players could crossover to a different sport than any other. The fluidity of the sport combines every aspect of what it means to be athletic.

Now rules/procedures and what not are a different story.

You seem to have really oversimplified baseball. Maybe because it is more familiar to you but baseball is much more complex than hockey for sure and probably football too

Unless the good ole days were in Naismith's gym, then i dont know which day im looking back to. Freethrows being that big of a part of a game are imperfect to me.

Women's beach volleyball. Simple game, chicks in bikinis, free flowing booze, sunshine, sand and other chicks in bikinis.

I guess the act of doing basketball related athletic feats, to me, isnt the game of basketball. Its the rules and gameplay that make it a sport, and are flawed.

I see ?the difference. You prefer your sports to be so easy and simple a caveman can do it. I prefer my sports to be a little more challenging and complicated because it makes it more entertaining and fun. To each his own though.

Also don't see how you didn't include track. There's one rule
