What personal experiences of yours have determined/changed your position? For me:

1) Visiting very poor and heavily mexican schools in the poorest parts here in OC has made me disdainful of the state monopoly over k12 education. The fact that your zipcode determines whether your school is full of books or full of gangs is, to me, a violation of American principles. ABOLISH ZIP CODE ZONING LAWS FOR K12 PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

Wasn't it that your parents told you to be a Republican and vote Republican?

1) Started paying taxes

2) Spent time in academia and saw just how "tolerant" liberals/progressives

I'm talking about specific issues. BTW, I am a true republican from the same philosophical school as Mitt Romney and Abraham Lincoln. Not the Jessie Helms garbage that has slithered into the party.

Nothing that has happened particularly to me but I've watched the Ds and Rs closely enough to realize that they one in the same. So about 8 or 10 years ago I really moved toward the libertarian end of policy thought.

Spend my working hours in a hospital.

There's a reason healthcare workers are disproportionately republican and fiscally conservative.

I once saw a mom tell her kid to hurry up and drop out of highschool because he was wasting his time. That way he could work full time at McDonalds.

Listening to family stories about the corrupt cop in my family. Hearing about how he had a throwdown baggie, stole liqour from minors, etc.

It shaped me a bit.

Going to the UK for several long trips and getting a real feel for the country (2000 and 2005).

It showed me people can exist in a socialist country but it isn't paradise. Interestingly many people were clamoring for 'more govt!' as if they hadn't tried it yet. Was just surreal.

The hardest thing to overcome in starting a business is government. When you finally start to make money, the gov't comes along and knocks you back in the red.

It took several years to make a decent income.

Growing up in the Delta seeing how democrat policies killed the towns here.

Seeing welfare get abused daily, realizing how bad the system needs reform and cuts.

I'm also an avid hunter and strongly support the 2nd amendment, so I'll go against anyone who wants to limit that right further.

Pretty much the same. Although for an event, I guess I could put the Iraq "War" on there (really got me thinking about what Intervention is necessary or not)

Gulf of Tonkin.

Even thought I hated LBJ I believed he was prosecuting the Vietnam War legitimately and in the best interest of the nation. It was beyond my understanding that any person, especially the POTUS, could act in a dishonest manner at this level.

I believed the GoT incident just as he described it. When I found he absolutely deliberately lied about it, I flipped to a radical anti-Democrat for the rest of my life.

LBJ already was the scum of the earth based on his personal attributes, but to realize that he would bastardize the honor of the nation for his own betterment was just too much.

I have been bitterly antagonistic to all political liars since - and the DEMs have cornered the market on this brand of slime.

1. Seeing politicians elected because they get up at 6AM to read the Bible

2. Seeing how many folks check the Straight Party Vote box on election day

3. Seeing a crook and a certified racist make the run-off for governor in my home state

you're definitely a team player. I respect independent thinkers...but I reserve a bit of respect for special folks like you. Your devotion is noted.
