Did "Artificial Intelligence" stay with you?

I saw it in the theater 13 years ago and thought it was pretty good at the time. But as I've gotten older the movie has stayed with me. Especially the scene where Haley Joel Osment finally asks the blue fairy where he came from. Such a vivid parallel to the human condition and our search for how humanity originated.

Makes you think about what makes us human. Osment was a robot but reacted to pain, missed his mommy, and generally pulled at the heartstrings of the viewer. Then you start to think to yourself, if he's just wires inside why should I feel sympathy for a robot?

Maybe it was just me, but that movie really messed with my head.

As one of the worst movies I have ever purchased? Yes. It has stayed with me.

I loathe the ending to this movie and I think Kubrick would have as well.

fricking aliens.

To each his own.

It may just be that when I first saw it, I was at an age where I had never considered many of the ideas the movie went into. And since I'm not really a movie buff, I wouldn't really know it if there were other movies that already explored those ideas and did it better.

I know. I pretty much disregard that whole ending. I'm just talking about the whole idea of the viewer feeling sorry for a robot with human likeness and emotions. And that robot trying to find out his own origin. Just did something for me.

To be completely honest, I saw the movie in the theater and I can't remember much about it. It didn't leave much of an impression on me. As a matter of fact, as I type this post, I'm having trouble remembering who all was in the damned thing.

I see a lot of movies, by the way, but this one just didn't register.

Same here. I enjoyed it overall but the most lasting impact its had on me is that the ending dragged on way too long. Its really just a futuristic Pinocchio.

They weren't aliens at the end. Come on man.

I think the 4/5 of the movie is great. I really liked the philosophical themes of "what does it mean to be human". But the tacked on last 20 minutes nearly ruins the film.

There was a natural ending with him stuck underwater that would have been a deep and meaningful ending.

I love this film and have defended it for years, unfortunately upon repeat viewing I find it difficult to defend anymore.

However the film does stay with me and I still like it a lot.

Same here. I really like this movie, and I don't hate the ending as much as some. It was trying to establish the fact that all intelligent biological life was gone forever and only robotic "life" existed.

This was an important point to conclude the movie with, but it wasn't implemented as well as it could have been.

No. A pretty disappointing and forgettable film, unfortunately. Honestly, I felt more compassion for the androids in the Alien franchise.

AI was literally the worst half-movie I've ever seen. I walked out halfway through.

Yes.

It is a flawed film, but it is still quite good.

Should have ended with him underwater.

Spielberg said the ending was Kubrick's idea. They're not aliens either, they're advanced robots. It definitely should have ended with him in the water though.
