I've posted about this before but wanted to get some input specifically for this. After looking around, staying inside the park is very expensive. Other options include camping, but we'll be flying there so I'm not sure how feasible that is.

Those of you that have been to GNP, where did you stay? We're primarily interested in day hikes, so no overnight backpacking.

How far you willing to stay away? You can get Condos in Whitefish, or hotel rooms in Kalispell that are cheaper.

Willing to drive 45 minutes or so. We visited Zion last year and stayed in St George. We didn't mine getting up early and getting back late. In fact, I don't remember anything about the hotel because we just crashed there every night, got up before dark and did it all over again.

ETA: Stayed in Hurricane, not St George. Still about a 30 minute drive. Not bad.

I'd look at Whtiefish or Kalispell. Probably a lot less expensive than those near or in the park. I've never stayed in one, but I've heard some of the ones just outside the park, like Lake McDonald are expensive and not worth it

In past trips, we've found some reasonably priced places in East Glacier (Mountain Pine Motel) and West Glacier (Vista Motel).

Driving back to Kalispell is a bit of a haul, particularly if you aren't ending the day on the west side of the park.

If you are looking for good camping spots with some amenities, the Polebridge area might be worth looking into. We stayed at the Schnaus Cabin once, but I bet that's already booked up.

When we went we stayed in Whitefish. It's a really cool little town and not that bad of a drive to the park. One day wee drove complete around the park up into canada and back. It was an awesome day trip. Prince of Wales Lodge is pretty incredible.

We stayed in Condos in Whitefish. Easy drive into the park. If you haven't set the date of your trip yet, be sure to check the status of the "Road to the Sun". It's normally snowed in until July.
