I bought a macbook pro from a friend for little to nothing, knowing that the battery is out. So right now if I'm running the macbook off the charger I'm using the service battery.

I looked online for replacement batteries and they range around 70-80ish dollars. I went to the genius bar and they told me that they could replace my battery for $125.

So I'm thinking about buying a battery myself and changing it out on my own (with the help of youtube).

Has anyone else changed out their own battery. If so, is it complicated to get done?

FYI: I have a macbook pro 15inch mid 2010 model.

Ifixit.com has great tutorials with step by step pictures and instructions.

Later macbook models are much harder to repair and change the battery. Id look at the tutorial first before buying one and attempting yourself.
