How long can you safely keep & eat deli meats in the fridge?

I got a lb of ham at Albertson's and the deli worker told me 3 days. I've always thought it was around a week.
Pokey at Pocorello's once told me that his deli meats stay good for months in his case. I don't remember though him saying whether it was opened or unopened packages.

There's no way it's only 3 days. I've eaten stuff up to a week later and been fine. Two weeks might be pushing it
ETA: I'm talking about sliced up meats you take home, not sealed up at the store

You should be good for a couple months. Just make sure to toss the ham in a skillet to cook off any bacteria.

Sealed up meats I've been told is about a week. Sliced up meats from the deli is what I'm asking about. If the store opens a package of deli meat, wouldn't it sometimes take them several days to sell the whole thing?

Smell/taste test. A little bite won't hurt, but you should be able to tell if it's good or not from that bite. A week to 10 days tops in my experience

Smell and touch test have always worked well enough for me. Usually about a week is when things get funky.

I have always believed that green hair growing from the edge of the ham slice is a bad thing. You might want to suggest the little lady watch for that condition when having her make you a sammich.

Meat doesn't go bad. That green stuff is good for you. They make antibiotics from that stuff.
