Pulled Groin...what are my recovery prospects?

Obviously a week of rest between playing basketball is not working. Been messed up for about 5 weeks now.
How much time should I take to let it heal before exercising? Should I consider some deep tissue work?

Chicken I have suffered this before and I know others as well. It can be a long and aggravating recovery. You will think it's all better then tweek it again. Good luck.

get a smuch rest as possible. definitely get some tissue work done if you can. i had a nasty pull in 2006 that still tweaks nowadays if i move to quick in the wrong direction. get used to stretching like a mofo before you do anything athletic related from now on

Ben, that's how I feel. It feels fine when I first start playing hoops... After two games, it starts bothering me again and I have to quit.
Never been much of a groin stretcher and I think that has bit me in the butt

Don't mess around with groin pulls at your age. They can linger for a long time. Need physical therapy lots of stretching and take at least a month off from b ball

Go to a doc and make sure its not a sports hernia(which is not an actual hernia).
Do you have any lower abdominal pain to go with it?

I had a pulled groin in high school that just wasn't getting any better with rest so after about a week coach had me start walking the bleachers and that did the trick. It's been 5 weeks so it should be safe to do some light stair climbing. If a few days of that doesn't help you may need to go see a doctor.

I have done this several times. I would say low activity for a couple of weeks before back to full speed. The problem is it can feel better after a week or so but is easy to aggravate again if not completely healed.

You will have to modify your physical activities for some time to come and no more basketball for a while.

Had a groin pull my senior year of college baseball.
Use a heating pad for 5-10 minutes. Stretch. Then massage for 10-15 minutes. Limited exercise for 2 weeks. Do this twice a day, preferably in the morning and evening. After 2 weeks, continue with the same routine for another 2 weeks, but add more exercise to work the muscle some making sure to stretch prior. Without any setbacks, you should be 100% after a month.

Had one my Senior year of HS. Took several months to recover. Do NOTHING to aggravate the tear. Minimize lateral movement as much as possible.
1. Ice the inside of your thigh to reduce pain and swelling. Experts recommend doing it for 20-30 minutes every three to four hours for two to three days, or until the pain is gone.
2. Compress your thigh using an elastic bandage or tape.
Good luck!!

I hope it was your own.

I didn't think swelling would be an issue since it was 5 weeks ago. He doesn't need to ice much if he plans to move around during the work day.
ETA: the compression is okay though.
