Any other fellow TD'ers been here? Went to this little joint in EaDo, the best (and cheapest) gumbo I've had in the city.

Yes, their poboys are great. And EaDo is a terrible thing to call the hood.

Yes, great po boys and gumbo...I miss when it was called Calliope. Cajun Stop just sounds dumb to me.

ETA - If you have a chance, go support James at Mozelle's on Heights Blvd. He's a Louisiana boy and big LSU fan that's making some damn good home style Louisiana food.

I went to high school with the chef/owner. I'm in Houston right now (on the west side unfortunately) and want to try it on my way out.

I hope James sells a lot of Cajun food cause I looked at doing something on heights and real estate was so high I couldn't make it work.

Dumb name change but it makes sense.

Was this previously a po boy shop ? Little red house type place ?

No, he's on Heights just south of I10 and North of Washington in a run down strip center next to the train tracks...I'm sure the rent is high, but not as high as most places in the area.

I'm trying to think of a little red house/po boy shop on Heights and I can't. Maybe you're talking about the Big Mamou on Studewood? If so, that closed and it's now Good Dog, a food truck turned brick and mortar.

That's it place was terrible.

Unfortunately when I visit now I don't seek out poboys, but I'd like to give this guy a shot.

Ah, I have been there. Poboys are the best in the city that I've had. One of the few places that doesn't hand you a hoagie and try to tell you it's a Poboy. Never had the gumbo.

I'll have to check out Mozelle's.

went to Mozelle's last week. Po Boy was ok. Boudin balls were ok - a little to greasy and a little too burnt. But I will be back to try the Gumbo. James is a helluva nice guy.

He's having a crawfish boil, Saturday march 1st.

Yea, I like the Po Boy and Gumbo more at Cajun Stop, but Mozelle's is right by my house and James is a good dude. So, I like to give him some business.

His crawfish pie is probably the best one I've had in Houston.
