read it
quote:
nt Valentine of Rome states that he was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians, who were persecuted under the Roman Empire. According to legend, during his imprisonment, he healed the daughter of his jailer, Asterius. An embellishment to this story states that before his execution he wrote her a letter signed "Your Valentine" as a farewell.

well since no one celebrates it in his honor, yes, it's a corporate holiday.

Corporate holiday = you "need" to buy something in order to make the holiday most "successful"
Valentine's Day = "Buy flowers and jewelry and chocolates and stuffed animals etc.!"
Valentine's Day = Corporate holiday

Valentine's Day = Corporate holiday

Jesus was not born on Dec 25. That date was chosen because of it's proximity to the winter solstice which was a pagen holiday. It was easier to covert them to Christianity with similar holidays.
i.e. It was made up

Valentards day is as corporate as it gets.

But, but, but, Hallmark sells cards and shite, so it is a corporate holiday.
As it is with any holiday, it's what you make of it and want it to be. Don't fall for marketing gimmics and hopefully you don't have to bowdown to someone that demands gifts for every holiday
