If the government employees union figure is correct, that is both staggering and disturbing on many levels.

I hate all PACS. But to put this in perspective. Koch industries employs about 50,000 people. The AFSCME represents 1.5 million and is a branch of the AFL-CIO.

My point still stands accepting that, maybe even more so.

There is SO MUCH money to be had in growing Government at the Federal level that there's no way that we'll ever shrink FedGov and get it back to its Constitutional limitations.

There are too many people making money and prosperous careers off of it to change.

This is why Obama, the left and unions (remember the IRS is unionized) want strict control and the squashing of the Tea Party and other conservative groups. I find it amazing that the lefties fall in line that the Tea Party and conservatives must not contribute to candidates and must be taxed while these unions are "non-profits" that support leftest and leftest causes.

to be fair, the graph uses a timeframe that may create a bigger difference

the kochs have just recently started pumping money in, i believe, and if that's true, their spending average is skewed by increasing the time frame

unions continue to lose power, so i'd imagine expanding the time frame into eras that had more power/money means shifting a front-loaded view. again, make the data more recent and the per capita will decrease

Most of the public employee unions spending has been in the last ten years. I just got the book "Taxifornia" after listening to an interview with the author yesterday. The largest political contributors in California are the California Teachers Association followed by the SEIU. California now has 24% of the populace living below the poverty level (double the national rate) with 1/3 of the nations welfare receipts are spent.

Not so sure about public unions, including the NEA.

Yep, they are most powerful now and we support them with our taxes and have no choice about it unlike public employee unions. I'm still outraged that the IRS is unionized to "protect them" while they interrogate us and can't plead the fifth to them.

Yep, from my perspective the public sector unions are doing great. Every public job (outside a few exempt positions) in this State are unionized.
