330 conibears. Beaver are easy, especially ones that haven't been trapped in a while. Google a castor mound set and be done with it. Not uncommon to have a 50% catch rate every day at first. Cleared multiple colonies in the first 2 checks before.

If you don't want to buy the set tool at least look up using a rope to set. Much easier than by hand. Its not a strength thing to set by hand, its technique but not worth learning unless your planning on doing a lot of it.

As far as luring a beaver, look for something called backbreaker made by dobbins lures. My favorite so far. Use it with a castor mound set. Right now is the perfect time for them. Lots of first night catches, just make sure you stake the trap very well. For the most part they are dead almost instantly, some of the big ones still fight. This was a 68# from last year that pulled a 10 foot cable taut before she died.

That's a big ole beaver. How big do they get and are the giid table fare? How long would it take for one that size to chew through a 3" log?

I know of a few guys who have caught a few 70+ beavers but that one was my largest. I have had several in the 60-65 range.

As far as table fare they are pretty good. I have some acquaintances that prefer it to venison. I don't eat many simply because I run a three day check most of the time and I'm afraid to eat anything that could have been dead that long.

And a log that size can be gone in one night easy.

Thats insane. We are having hell with beavers on our farm lately. Damming up some drainage ditches, holding water on a couple fields. Had a guy come in and shoot 3 night before last. Tried trapping them last year with a couple conibear traps, no beavers but did manage to not lose a finger so i guess thats a success.. To say we didnt know what we were doing trapping is a huge understatement.

I'm going to put out some beaver traps later this week. If there is any interest I'll try and snap some pics of how I do it.

Bumping this thread. Found the dam this morning and spent an hour breaking a hole in it. Going to go back tomorrow and see if it's repaired. I'm guessing it will be since there were some semi-fresh cut limbs on it. I'm still uncertain as to how I'm going to tackle this. Need to do more scouting but if anyone has any new ideas to add, I'd appreciate it.

You spotlight them and blow their brains out, remember.. no matter you have seen on fake reality shows, beavers are nocturnal..
