I was really looking forward to three dominant corners next season. It looks like the coaches have little confidence in the safeties, and they're going to leave Mills there through spring. Here's hoping that Jefferson and company pick up the pace, and that the new guys - Paris, Adams, and Battle - give Chavis the luxury of moving Mills back to corner for fall practice.

I like the move they made for the bowl game with Mills and would like to see him stay there. He is a good (not saying great) tackler and his coverage skills are good. Plus he is a guy that has been in the system for a few years with a lot of experience.
A lot of young talented guys coming up at safety but I would still leave him there through fall until you know what you have with the young guys.

This. He helps us a lot more at safety than corner.

Mills is awesome when he doesn't have primary responsibility. He's a Tyrann type who flies to the football and is great in providing assistance in coverages. Just don't line him up straight up on a receiver.

I really do like Mills at safety. He plays very physical and he's fast too. It'll be much better for him if he wants to make it to the NFL

Mills at S could be the next Taylor.

Very solid, well coached, good on field leader. I'll take that all day.

The defense looked a lot better with him back there. I like the move.

Paris is a corner. Mills is staying at safety.

He did a good job on short notice playing safety. I am kind of excited about him by the time fall rolls around after really learning the position.

J. Mills = B. Taylor at safety is a very solid comparison IMO

issue may also be numbers driven. if Thompson's injury was an acl, I can't see him out there in the spring. we'd then have Jefferson, Martin and... who?

let him stay at safety. I don't think he ever was or ever will be a dominant CB. good tackler, decent in coverage, but not dominant.

His situation reminds me a lot of Brandon Taylor's at LSU. Recruited as a corner and does okay, but shifts to Safety where his skillset is a huge benefit. I like the move, and it honestly helps LSU's secondary.

He reminds me of a Malcolm Jenkins from Ohio State type. Big corner that moved to Safety with the Saints.

Mills will play SS because it is important that the most knowledgeable DB be at that position. The SS is always the one who makes the adjustments when the Opponents O come to the LOS. This is because he always plays over the TE and is fixed there. At CB what you need is a very athletic cover guy. LSU only had 2 in 2012 counting Mills and he was a freshman and had none in 2012 except for Mills. They started 2013 with only Mills as the one with any experience. They then threw White to the wolves to learn. He had a lot of learning experiences, some of them bad.

If Robinson had been there for fall practice he would have also been thrown to the wolves, but he couldn't play or register until a day or before the TCU game. When he started catching own, especially after the off week before the A&M game, they let him play corner and moved Mills to safety. Mills played safety the rest of the year which is why you saw the results you did.

Think Brandon Taylor in the 2011 year. In 2008 he was a starting CB and our best. He was the most knowledgeable and best tackler of the DB. In 2010 LSU had PP and the CB had some really good young players come to the program. So they moved Taylor to strong safety. In 2011 I believe Taylor was one of the top tacklers on the team and led the DB to a great season.

In the last 3 games Mills was at SS and was one of the leading tacklers on the team. The DB really looked good and seem to know what they were supposed to do. Mills is an extremely knowledgeable player like Taylor and is also a playmaker who can do what Chavis wants with the D.

There is also a bunch of Young Guns this year besides Robinson and White to play the other positions. Battle and Paris are exceptionally fast and Battle may be the second coming of the Honey Badger. He is a tic slower but about but he 4-5 inches taller and 20# heavier than Mathieu, and but being top hurdler can jump out of sight. He is also very instinctive and is always around the ball. If he doesn't win a starting job I predict he will be the nickle and dime back. He is a real play maker.

I am really looking forward to the D this year. LSU has exceptional DB and DE and the LB will be good as will the DT.
