Have about 5.5 acres with about half cleared. The rest has house, trees, and other small obstacles. I know I want zero turn, but need suggestions on brand and any other tips are appreciated. Thanks

I cut 4 acres and have a 61 inch cut. I would not want any smaller. I opted for the SCAG Turf Tiger and it is a machine. My neighbor was in the same boat you are and researched for what seemed like a year. At first he was going to buy a bad boy or hustler but ended up spending the extra coin and purchased a scag cheetah. I suggest that you go look at several different ones to see which one you like best though.

The only zero turn you can still drink beer on. Opreates with one hand just like and escavator.

Bad Boy has best bang for the buck. Like $1500 less than comparible models all components considered

Whats your budget? I did quite a bit of research last year, and would agree Bad Boy is the best value.

Tractor Supply had 54" cut for $3499

I would not buy any mower from Home Depot,Sears,Lowes,TS,and the likes.
They're all either rebranded cheapos or very low line originals.

I just checked those out. That 60" ZT Elite for 5k looks nice. That is going to the top of my list.

I knew this about Deere and Husqvarna, but even Bad Boys? Whats the difference in one from Dealer vs. TS?

I dont know, honest question...

Mainly the motors and the hydro gear transmissions.
Some may have a Kawasaki motor on it but it won't be the good commercial series.
Same with the Hydrogear ZT transmissions.

They're comparable to all of the other zero turn mowers out there. Thick gauge steel and a kick up deck for washing. One hand to operate, one hand to drink beer. You ever try drinking beer on a two handed zero turn?? Spill alot of beer and get pissed off!!

Call my buddy T-ken or Kyle at the Pierre Part Store (985) 252-6261.

Main point in buying a good commercial mower is having a place to service it within decent driving distance. They all make remarkable machines but i have to say that saving around $1500 on a Bad Boy over a Gravely,Exmark,Scag,Grasshopper, ETC. is a good deal and they are serviceable in the BR area.

I saw the PP store is a dealer. Do they service them too?

I've got a 12 year old Exmark I have been looking to upgrade. that thing has been a beast. Unfortunately, I don't think the Exmark of today is what it once was.

With that much land, Id buy a commercial unit. Thats 5-10x more land than the Home Depot unit was built to cut, weekly.

I would find a dealer near you that is good to deal with. Ive used Scags, Toro, and Exmarks. I liked the Scag the best but the cheapest (Toro) did just fine cutting grass too.

I never understood why people obsessed over mowers so much. Its far worse than Ford vs Gm vs Ram. However, if you want to dive in headfirst, go over to www.lawnsite.com and join the club.
