Price going to come down in a few weeks, unless the sun rises, the temperature changes or we get rain.

If the weather was perfect for crawfishing, it would still be "ain't catching shite"

I used to work at a seafood market during high school (10 years ago) and it was bull shite. The fishermen would tell the owner they could have truck loads of crawfish and would talk to the owner about farming as little as possible to keep demand high and prices up. It's a win win for the fishermen and the stores that sell em to keep the amount of sacks minimal. I always head to Pierre Part to get them from the fishermen direct and avoid the mark up from the stores. I have never had a problem getting crawfish from around the spillway.

Edit: after Easter is when they would flood the market, I was told by that point, the fishermen and store owners have already made obscene profits. Not complaining about people turning a profit, for the record. This is still America, for now.

Still don't understand why one of these frickers doesn't just undercut the market and hire a security team with the insane profit.

A guy I know opened a seafood market a few years back in Gonzales and he told me within a week of opening, the owners of every surrounding market in the area called to talk to him about trying to keep his prices on par with what they were selling for to avoid this "problem" of messing up the profit margins for the owners. He said one was pretty adamant about him not undercutting his store. The fishermen usually get the shaft because they sell for pretty cheap, compared to the mark up once the stores turn them around. I always try to support the fishermen and they usually sell them to me for more than what the stores buy them for, but it is easier for them to unload the sacks wholesale than trying to find odd ball buyers near the farms.

I go catch my crawfish because the farmers have nothing but bull shite stories & Bull shite prices.

It's way cheaper and the crawfish are much bigger.

Best way to go IMO. I used to go all the time when I was younger. I just don't have the time anymore.

The joy of being young and having friends that jump in the car at the phrase, "Got an ice chest full of beer".

Crawfish should be $1.25 a lb at all times of the season. I don't care what they say.

Q the BS.

I go to Ville Platte and buy from the Mexican farming the farmer's crawfish ponds for $20 a sack. The farmer has no idea...

I haven't run traps in a few years. Last time I did...20 traps and one sack. That's enough for me to do a small boil for a few friends.

I'm gonna start coming the ramah levees for boats hauling.

I NEED some crawfish.

Craw fishing was awesome in the 90s

Should have seen it in the 60s and 70s. Could go in the Brule (Chacahoula swamp) or pretty much any swamp in the area and catch 2, 3, or even 4 sacks of crawfish in no time with some set nets. If you wanted to boil crawfish, you went catch them. Very rarely did we buy crawfish. Hard to even find a place where you can catch them nowadays.

ICON killed pond crawfish, da gubament and the buyers forced every good fisherman out of fishing...
Since they quit buying graded back in the early 90s fishing hasn't been worth the time. Buyers got greedy, Uncle Sam wants his cut and they wanted to charge for fishing access to the Achafalaya. Forced a pile of the best fisherman out of the business. Remember Common Claws....
