i'm about to order one.

I'm done waiting on HBO to create an app for the Xbox One so i can watch HBOGO on my XboxOne. It took them over a year to create it for the PS3 after the launch of the app on 360. I'm done waiting on Plex or VLC to create media extenders so I can play my illegaly downloaded movies from my Windows 7 PC to my XBone because they haven't finished creating their own app yet.

Plus it's only $35 and it seems to be able to do all these things.

I assume that any media that plays within Google Chrome can be stream to the Chromecast and thus my TV correct?

We have one on every TV since launch.

Don't use it much, but comes in handy as a second monitor while on the MBP in the living room.

EDT: To your second question, yes. The YouTubes and alike. You can honestly play anything which is in your Chrome browser.

To an extent, yes. Mobile devices and tablets do NOT stream the chrome browser. Chromecast is streamed through supported apps (and its pretty limited). I hardly us mine anymore

but it does what I'm assuming it'll do correct?

Easily for Hulu, HBO, Youtube etc. But I can use Plex or something else to stream my own videos in Chrome to Chromecast?

I wouldn't buy a Chromecast if you're looking to stream stuff.

Get yourself a Roku 3. We cut the cord and used Rokus and my HTPC builds for years until Roku really got its act together.

Your answer is a Roku 3, you won't turn on another piece of equipment in your living room after owning one.

It has everything you are looking for.

Correct, that is only for PCs/Macs.

I use one on the TV in my bedroom. I don't want to move my xbox out of the living room, and I don't want to pay for an extra cable box or connection in my room.

I freaking love mine. youtube.

No.

EDT: Only Hulu and Youtube, not HBO.

The Roku does HBOGO.

Are you saying Chromecast doesn't have HBO support? Because it 100% does.

I've been streaming The Sopranos through my tablet for weeks now.

Yeah, when it first launched it didn't have support.

I guess it has it now, great to hear.

Roku seems like the better overall product.

And I can in fact steam movies from my PC to my tv with a Roku?

Yes. You have to download an chrome extension for plex to work. It's not perfect but it works. There's a good review on amazon that explains the "how to"

I'll add that Slingbox also does NOT work through Chromecast.

It will be streaming fine in Chrome, but as soon as I cast it to the TV the stream goes black. All the other visuals of the webpage cast, but the actual video does not.

ETA: The whole reason I bought it was to chromecast CSN Houston via slingbox. FAIL!!!

I personally think the slingbox was one of the most unusable pieces of tech I have ever purchased.
