On sirriusxm NFLradio, he also said that Mettenberger might be a 5th or 6th round pick. He said Mettenberger improved this yeR but not enough to build a franchise around. Wow! I seriously doubt Polian has really been watching film on. Mettenberger this season. I can agree that Mettenberger is not ready to jump right end and run a NFL offense just yet, but to completely right him off is silly. I'd really like to know who Polian has ahead of Mettenberger.

If by developmental he meant this:
quote:

He said Mettenberger improved this yeR but not enough to build a franchise around.

he's correct as of right now.
quote:

he also said that Mettenberger might be a 5th or 6th round pick.

This is wrong though

Mett will do well given the right situation.

Mettenberger was making NFL throws last year. The only thing that will semi hold him back is his complete lack of mobility, but if he can learn how to manipulate the pocket that will greatly reduce that hazard.

If he goes to a team featuring a veteran guy who only had a couple years left starting that he could develop a little more under, I think his future is extremely bright

He had to throw in a little positive. But he pretty much blow off the callers question about Mett. As if Mettenberger was an after thought. It was pretty ugly. But I remember Polian doing the same thing with Mathieu. He said that I won't touch him. Talked about how he was undersized and not very fast. He comes off as extremely arrogant.

I've never liked Polian much, he never really seems to know what he's even talking about. Very dated views on most things.

He does need to develop, but guys like Manziel, Bortles, Carr, the Garippio(sp?) guy from OD, are raw and aren't franchise builders either. They Bortles hype is ridiculous. He'll be another Jake Locker at best.

Mett has an elite arm, but is coming off a serious leg injury. He's not an immediate "franchise qb" (Luck, Newton, WIlson, RGIII) but if he makes it onto the right team he has a chance to be very successful. He greatly improved his draft stock over the last year and showed he can thrive in a pro style offense.

Was exposed by USC. He is the most overrated player in this draft.

Mett has the best NFL arm and accuracy for the arm of any in this draft by a large margin! His pocket awareness needs lots of improvement but that is for most guys coming out of college. Mett has a little more than most but his arm and accuracy is amazing. One of the best I've seen in a while. He's easily a second round QB and no way he goes past the 3rd. Hell if he does if I'm the saints I pick him up in a heartbeat!! You have a damn good project QB to work with and pick another fist rounder the year after. That way you have two guys to work with and secure that position for the future. You would be a fool to let Mett pass you up in the 3rd IMO!
