Is it in the Top 5? Is it above Auburn and Alabama?

Also, would I be correct in assuming Texas A&M and Vanderbilt are the top engineering programs in the conference?

At one point I googled this and LSU was in the top 10 nationally in PE. A&M was ranked higher. Don't remember what other SEC schools were listed.

After Vandy, A&M, Florida are higher I'd imagine -- although not everyone offers PETE. UGA might be up there too.

Some engineering programs within LSUs college of engineering are a lot better than others (at least according to their national rank) but I'd definitely say its top5. A&M is hands down #1, Florida and Auburn both have good engineering schools followed closely by LSU.

it varies by program. For example, currently, LSU's Construction Management and PETE programs are the best in the SEC (PETE best in the country), but computer science lags behind ULL. Vanderbilt leads the way in most engineering disciplines, but I know LSU's Chemical Engineering program is up there. Overall, I could be mistaken, but I think LSU's engineering program as a whole is top 5 in the SEC with Vanderbilt and Texas A&M for sure, but I don't know who else rounds out the top 5 (probably Auburn and Florida).

Florida is amazing, a lot of you are seriously under rating them. They have a great engineering department and one of the best in nuclear.

Tennessee has an Oak Ridge partnership and are seriously upgrading their facilities. They should be up in the top 5.

A&Ms PETE program is #1 in the country. LSUs usually hovers around #3 going back and with Stanford. Still damn good but not #1

Where does LSU's Mechanical Engineering Program rank in the SEC and nationally? Anybody know?

I know when I was there, the PETE department had some courses/technology that no other campus in the country had.

A lot of Big Oil companies went to LSU first and hand picked, before they went elsewhere.

A&M has the top ranked PETE department in the country (well, it's a toss up between them and UT)

LSU is probably top 5 or 10, but there aren't a lot of schools that offer the degree.

Overall I think LSU has a good engineering program, with good industry support.

Worry about making good grades not what the program is ranked. Really good companies pull from LSU engineering that's all you need to know.

That's probably right.

I would put Florida/A&M/Vandy as the definite class above the rest

LSU/Auburn/Tennessee doing very similar

Then a clouded mess down below that

77th in the nation, tied for 4th in the Conference with Kentucky behind A&M, Vandy, and Tennessee in that order.

Having an actual well facility to learn at is a huge advantage for LSU's PETE department compared to other schools too.
