quote:

One person was killed and another seriously injured in a deadly explosion at a Wilson County, TN home Monday evening.

The injured person is listed in critical condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

quote:

An agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation confirmed to News 2 the explosive devise originated from a package.

The agent stated they believe it was a targeted attack.

Authorities secured the area to make sure there were no other explosives. Officials on the scene said they believe the incident was isolated.

That's a scary thought.

ETA: I wonder if the packed was actually shipped or just dropped off at the scene. Hopefully an explosive wouldn't make it through our shipping system, but crazier things have happened I suppose.

Like that clown here in Houston last month who had 5 bombs. They had to evacuate the neighborhood next to mine.

It's only "terrorism" when the FBI wants a bigger budget and more power.

Take that nonsense to the conspiracy theory board. Nowhere in the article does it say domestic terrorism. The OP added that himself.

If it's designed to kill a specific person, it's murder, but if it's designed to kill someone and make other people like them "terrified" into not opening packages, or changing the way they decide cases, or just because "government is bad, so let's terrorize government workers" then it's terrorism. So while it's too early to say, I certainly wouldn't rule it out.

eta...now that I've actually read the article (dumb on my part) It sounds very personal, although if it was intended for the church/school next door then it could still be designed to terrorize people for religious reasons, although that seems unlikely.

Point taken. I went off of the OP and didn't click the link. Note to self for future.

BTW, I worked for the GOV and if you think that labelling something a certain way to get an increaded budget/authority is "Conspiracy Board" fodder then you are a fool. They ABSOLUTELY are ready and willing to use a situation for their own gain. Hence the famous quote from the White House: "Never allow a good crisis to go to waste."

$1000 says they are using the term terrorist regardless because the FBI and DHS LOVE using that term in cases. It immediatelky strips suspects of their constitutional rights since the Patriot Act. They can hold them without a lawyer and whatever else they want to do.

Considering it was nowhere in the article, I'll take the $1000 from you.

As someone who loaded trucks at UPS, it's very easy to ship something like that.

Domestic Terrorism Update

quote:

Bewildered residents in rural Tennessee are grappling with fear and confusion as they try to understand why someone would send a bomb in the mail to their neighbor.

quote:

Retired lawyer John Setzer, 74, died Monday after "an unknown package exploded," the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said.

His wife, 72-year-old Marion Setzer, was seriously injured and airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

quote:

On the Setzers' quiet rural street, neighbors were terrified about whether a bomb might arrive in their mailbox. Some told WZTV that officers went house-to-house Monday night to check mailboxes for devices.

"Of course it makes us a little anxious to go check our own mailbox when we see something like this happen, because normally boxes are delivered and mail is delivered, and you don't question it," neighbor Tony Dedman told the affiliate.

quote:

The FBI, U.S. postal inspectors, the Department of Homeland Security and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are also investigating.
