With Gordon cap space, who do Pels sign?

...I love the E. Gordon for B. Gordon expiring potential deal.

I think it makes a lot of sense for both teams...looks like the Bobcats are going after Evan Turner first, but Gordon could be a fall-back.

...we need Gordon to finish strong these last few games and up his value.

Everyone agrees that our weaknesses are at SF and C. Who do we sign if we free up the cap space?

Possible target UFA SFs:

Luol Deng
Danny Granger
Trevor Ariza
Aminu
Marvin Williams
CJ Miles
Richard Jefferson
Shawn Marion
Gordon Hayward (restricted)

Possible target UFA Centers:

Spencer Hawes
Marcin Gortat
Greg Monroe (restricted)

...there aren't a lot of great options out there, imo. Hayward is not attainable, and there are a lot of mediocre or over-the-hill SFs...and not a lot of options at C. Monroe could be attainable I guess, depending on what happens at the trade deadline.

I like Marvin Williams and Marcin Gortat...Do y'all think those guys are worth getting/would they fit with this team?

What do y'all want to do with the cap space (realistically)?

Will we be stuck with Gordon and the same roster for another season?

SF options suck. I doubt we trade EG but Deng + Hawes would be good but I'm afraid that puts is right in the middle of mediocrity.

At Center, I would like Gortat.

I know he's older, but I really wouldn't mind signing Richard Jefferson for the right price. He could be our David West (in regards to his veteran leadership to a young Pacers team). It also doesn't hurt he's shooting 43.9% from the 3 this season.

I'd love Deng. He plays a ton of minutes and can play the 3 and 4.

Deng would be a great fit, but it is believed he wants more than what Josh Smith got from Detroit ($13.5 mil per year). Would you guys be happy paying him $14 mil per year? If so, where does that leaving us with addressing Center?

Marion/Hawes if I had to choose.

I think Deng could be to the Pels what David West was to the Pacers. I do have concerns about his long term health with all the tough minutes he's played for the bulls, but the 2 year deal is becoming more common under the new CBA. I would be fine with giving him 2/$24-$30 I'd be a little hesitant going for 4 years at those prices though.

I love Deng...will cost, but I really like him for this team...can he give 3 more seasons at his current production?

I like Gortat, too...think he would complement Davis nicely...dunno what he will cost.

I'd rather Marvin Williams over Richard Jefferson...shouldn't cost too much, is 27 years old, rebounds well (like Aminu), and is competent/can shoot...would be a big upgrade over Aminu, imo.

He's only 29, I think he can for sure keep up production through a 3/4 yr contract.

I like Marion, but he will just be too old...about to be 36.

...I don't like Hawes either, especially with Anderson on the team...would prefer Gortat

I'm not sure how big an upgrade Marvin Williams is to Aminu. Regardless, I think with us not having a 1st round pick, it's urgent for us to move EG for an expiring. Still don't think it'll happen, simply for the fact that he's not that good. He's worth about half (literally) of what he's making. We might be able to move him next year as a potential expiring but no way he doesn't pick up his player option for another $15+ million wherever he is.

I would love to somehow get Thaddeus Young or Jeff Green to play SF.

Young is also from New Orleans.

It's robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Williams has a little more range to his shot, but both suck offensively and Aminu is better at rebounding.

I don't remember exactly what he said, but last year prior to the draft when Marion was rumored to be on the trading block, he said he would retire if he was traded to a non-contender. With that being said, I don't think he would sign with us next off season.

ETA: His quote was that he would opt out of his deal last year if traded to a "shitty situation."
quote:

“If I’m going to get traded, they’re going to tell me what’s going on and where I’m going,” Marion said. “Because if I’m going to a (expletive) situation, I’m not going. It’s just that simple."

So... Gordon to Dallas for Marion, who will retire rather than report?

Not necessarily a problem to me. Clears up a ton of cap space for us.

I would expect him to get much more than that. He will almost certainly surpass $10 million a year.
