I have a sit in, but everyone I've talked to says sit on is better. What's yall's preference?

I have a Native, which is an open sit in
as long as it is open, then it doesn't matter IMO

What do you use yours for?

Right now just fishing smaller lakes, and I've taken it on the Amite a few times. No plans to really go offshore.

Also it's a 10 foot old town vapor angler.

I don't see anything wrong with that one. The sit on top's in general have more space for shite.

SOTs offer more space for gear than SIKs. For small rivers and lakes a canak is best, like the Native Ultimate that Salmon has, or the WS Commander that I just bought. You sit in it for the kayak stability and low profile, yet it has room for lots of gear.

My choice: sit on
It can get awful hot during the summer with your legs stuck under the hull of a Yak.

WS Commander
I have a Commander 120 and love the versatility of it. I also like being hunkered down a little bit more, rather than sitting up high like a traditional SOT.
The hybrid "Ultimate" and "Commander" boats do not have scupper holes, but if you havent needed them yet, you should be okay.
They are probably the best small water boats out there. I use mine to fish small/mid-size waters and it works great for duck hunting, hauling gear, etc.

I prefer sit on top. I've had both and sit in was just such a pain IMO.

I've had both and much preer the sit on top. Much more freedom of movement and storage space

I have both. Sit ins track better but seats are not comfortable. sit on tops are slower but seat allows you to stay in the yak for hours and hours. Both have plenty of room.
My sit in is an old town predator 140K and my sit on top is a Hobie pro angler 12

The sit in feels more traditional. Having to drain it is a pain though.

Sushi, what is your budget?
Posted on 2/10/14 at 11:26 am to sushisucks
I got my Native Redfish 12 from Massey's for like $300. See if they have any demos for sale.

If in BR, keep an eye on Craigslist. Lots of good secondhand SOTs go up for sale there within your range. Especially in spring when people buy new boats and sell their old ones. Also consider checking the bckfc.org classified ads.

If I'm mainly fishing smaller ponds do I really need to upgrade? I have a 10 foot sit in. I was just wondering what the sit on advantages were haha.
