I'm about to buy one of the next gen systems, want the ps4 more but my friends want the xbone. What are the season passes for a lot of the games? Do you need that for online play or is that a dlc thing?

Well for PS4 you need Playstation Plus to play online. I think it's $45/year, or you can pay monthly. Season passes are something entirely different. COD has a season pass for all the map packs that you CAN buy, but don't need to unless you want all of the maps. Not sure what XB1 costs are for online play, but $45/year isn't bad at all IMO.

I already have playstation plus for my ps3 and it carries over. Just wasn't sure what the season pass stuff was. Most are around 50 bucks, are they pumping out that much dlc to play on?

Well, you never know how much DLC will be released, but instead of paying $15-$20 for each you can pay a flat fee and you get every DLC for no additional cost.

I know this will sound dumb but has dlc gone up that much? What games would season passes be a good value? When I was playing halo online, the map packs were like 5 each so I am a bit out of date with that. I know skyrim dlc is high but 1 year wouldn't have covered all of it either I don't believe.

If you play a certain game a lot, then to me it's worth it. I played a lot of Battlefield 3, so I knew that the Premium season pass was going to be worth it for me to extend the life of the game. And it really was the best DLC season pass I've bought.

Since I really only play one or two games, I usually go with the DLC anyway so it's worth it to me to get the whole thing.

Some DLCs yes. Not all.

It will most likely all ways be a better value to buy a season pass instead of paying for each separately. This is assuming you play the game long enough and plan on purchasing all DLC.
