by the losing team. It is not the way basketball is meant to be played. It just drags the game out and it does not become basketball any more.

There should be a rule change of some kind that that the foul in the last minute of the game also comes with a 8 - 10 second run off on the clock.

It's the way the game has been played for ever or at least since I've been watching.......did some of y'all just start watching basketball.....

That strategy makes for some good finishes....

So if LSU is down 7 with a minute left you'd want them to give up? Making FT's is a part of basketball.

It is interesting to me that if you foul like that with 10:00 left in a half, it'd probably be called an intentional foul. I'm not sure why grabbing someone is ever not an intentional foul.

even though the foul is intentional as long as the player makes a play on the ball the refs will not call it an intentional foul...

but what the ref are calling is say a player gets by with the ball and the player fouling grabs his jersey, they are calling stuff like that , which they never did before...

Perhaps if college basketball shortens the shot clock from 35 seconds to maybe 25 seconds, that would stop some of the fouling because the losing team would be guaranteed more possessions. Just a thought

Ending of games have always been like that, I'm sick of the forty minute foul fests this season

How much NBA do you watch?

The fouling at the end is, for better or worse, part of the game. It will never go away.

Agree with the OP. It hardly ever works and is boring to watch.

Fixed.

Do you have any statistics on the %age of success of the foul fest? I just have a gut feeling that it is pretty low.

The foul fests are the reason I don't really like basketball. Football games usually end in excitement, basketball ends in boredom.

I think the team fouled should have the option of inbounding the ball instead of shooting free throws, sort of like declining the penalty in football. If the foul is flagrant they get uncontested free throws and the ball back. That would make the ending much more exciting.

It really does. It's interesting tactically for me, the tension. Like when a team intentionally misses the 2nd free throw to try and get the rebound and pop it back in. Or when you've got to try and get your best FT shooter on the court to be fouled and take him out to replace him with a good defender.
But I don't like it when the losing team starts fouling with 3 - 4 minutes left in the game. The game momentum slows and I think even the winning team gets bored.

no I don't have number but im sure a team being down by 5 with 25 seconds left is a higher percentage than a team down by 8 points....

I would guess in a situation where a team is two possessions down maybe a 20 percent success rate...

I will say this , I bet a team gets a chance to tie or win in that situation almost half the time...

I have never liked it. Basketball is the only sport where the fouling team can benefit. You never see someone intentionally jump off sides in football.

No, but players interfere on would-be touchdowns in football and take 15 yards rather than the TD. So they do benefit from the foul.

probably, but it is infinitely higher than the 0.0 probability of winning the game if you just give up and let the clock run out
