do any of you people actually wear these god awful monstrosities? looks like a jesus sandal, a 5 finger shoe and a water sock all jerked off into a croc's vag and this was the bizarre illegitimate lovechild that was created.

They are all the rage at summer camps for kids.

Why the hate?

I backpacked 1,100 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail this past summer, and one of my buddies picked up a pair of these Keen shoes during a re-supply at an REI. He liked them a lot.

He wore them all through the Sierras, and they worked great for him. While another buddy and I had to stop at river / stream crossings to take our hiking shoes off so we didn't have to hike in wet shoes and socks, he could just roll right through the waters and back onto the trail to keep going.

Not having to sit down to take your shoes off on one side of the stream and then sit down to put them back on when you get to the other side can be a big time and effort saver when you're trying to get in 20 mile days with two mountain passes and somewhere around 10,000 feet of elevation changes.

In other words, yeah, these shoes can be a good fit for the right use... it's not like anyone is trying to wear these with a tuxedo or something.

I can understand some mountain people wearing those, but I have one question..

Why the got damn loop in the very back by the heel? Unless you're carrying your shoes on your belt, there is absolutely no need for a loop behind your fricking heel.

Again, think about backpackers. On the trail, we often had two pairs of shoes: one for hiking and walking, and a second sandal type shoe for campsite and water use.

During my trek, I wore new balance trail runners (x3 pairs over 1,100 miles but I'm still wearing the last pair) and then had a pair of crocs for lunch breaks, camp spots and river crossings. I kept those crocs hooked onto a carabiner on my pack for easy access so I could quickly switch into them when we came across water or took a break.

The loop works for the backpacker who wants to clip the water / camp shoes onto his pack for immediate access when trekking along the trail.

They look best with my low cut socks. Crew cut socks? Not so much...

There was a retarded kid at this camp I went to when I was younger that wore those. He had an off brand camelbak called a Platypus, if you told him it was called a camelbak he would go ape shite. He knocked out one of my friends with a tree branch once.
