Yeah. He wrote a World War II trilogy about America's involvement in the ETO. The first book was about North Africa, the second was about the Battle of Normandy (not just the D-Day landings), and the third and final book was about the Battle of the Bulge and the end of the war in Europe.

I liked his book about the Battle of Okinawa better. It was called The Final Storm and could be easily adapted into a motion picture.

Read them all and enjoyed them. I liked the first and third volumes better than Day of Battle, but probably just due to the subject matter and not any difference in style or ability on the part of Atkinson. Volume 1 won the Pulitzer Prize. Highly recommend reading them.

No, but I just read "Bunker Hill" by Nathaniel Philbrick and it was a good read.

I've read Atkinson's "Liberation Trilogy. My favorite was "An Army At Dawn". Possibly because it contained information that was new to me, or perhaps it was just written better.

"Day of Battle" was very good, as well. It detailed some of the lesser known battles of the drive up the Italian peninsula.

I don't know if my expectations were set too high after the first two books, but I didn't think "The Guns at Last Light" was as good as the other two in the trilogy.

All three are fantastic and very detailed. You will not be unhappy with the purchase.

Finished the prologue and most of the first chapter, Atkinson is a hell of a writer. He has a gift for phrasing. And nearly every other sentence is a piece of interesting information I didn't know, he sure did his research.
