Like the draft simulators, I found this cap simulator tool. You can input cuts, restructures, and decide on which free agents to retain. It is a daunting process when you get into it.

For anyone however, it's prolly worth a few minutes just to get a rough grasp of what might need to be done to get players you want and stay cap compliant at the same time.

take a few hours and give it a whirl-

I spent 5 minutes on it and got a headache.

Not a fun game.

The link wouldn't work and the website didn't work when I went to it. It's a shame. I thought it would be interesting.

OK, I just got us $11 mil under the cap for 2014 (Drew & Colston agreed to restructure, Will Smith cut, Butler & Toon traded).

I'll worry about 2015 next year.

That's the only way I could get Drew to agree to restructure.

WTH? Drew really hates that guy huh? Maybe Drew's a Mark Ingram fan.

Only thing I need help with is new deal estimations.

As it stands this is what I did(still plenty more I can do):

Cut
Smith

Restructure(down to vet minimum)
Brees
Evans
Grubbs
Colston
Bunkley

Franchised
Graham

ERFA
Harris

RFA 2nd Round
Bush
Morgan

RFA Original Round
Johnson
Collins

Vet Minimum Deal
Haralson

New Deals
Strief 3 years
Jenkins 5 years

And I'm $326,524 under. Strief and Jenkins are getting about $3 mil a year.

Didn't even touch guys like Moore, Sproles, Greer, and Thomas yet. This was really just a test run to see what could be done without being exact and touching everything that can be touched.

Basically, if we want we can get all our free agents back we want and even have money for another 2 or 3 new guys easy depending on who stays or goes.

Now if Graham gets the TE designation we may actually do well leaving him on the tag. But if he gets the WR designation we pretty much have to get a long term deal worked out if we want to bring in new starter free agents.

If you just cut Will Smith and Roman Harper it gets you about 800k under the cap. Cutting just Smith alone will free up a ton of room. I really can't see any scenario where we keep him.

Yup this has been a given since the numbers came out on his new contract.

Only chance he stays is if he takes vet minimum and even then we save about $600,000 more cutting him.

I haven't seen anything on Butler, but Jenkins' contract was voided about a week or so ago. Still unsure if it was an automatic void from unearned incentives or if the team actively voided it. The second would seem strange considered it was only for $1.6 mil.

It was on nfl live today that both butler and Jenkins contract was voided. I thought they would let butler play out this year. Jenkins was a no Brainer.

Why at only $1.6 mil would Jenkins be a no brainer? You aren't going to get someone of comparable age and skill for that price.

Also, I wonder if Butler's was voided(if it's voided) because of a lack of playing time. I remember the second year was conditional based on that but I thought it was if he played a major role.

Edit:
LINK /

Actually the void was denied. He had to achieve 6.5 sacks or 57.5% playing time.

It was on nfl live. It was asked which voided contract was the most important and Ryan Clarke picked Malcolm Jenkins. I thought to myself, dude has no clue just how bad he has been. We need a ball hawking safety for this d to be what it is supposed to be. This is the one position we are missing., as well as a corner and a Wr.
