Looking for some additional rotation depth with Derek Holland sidelined until midseason, the Rangers are in talks with free agent right-hander Tommy Hanson, reports Jon Morosi of FOX Sports.

Maybe it will be the year of the Angels

I feel like the Rangers do this every year now and hope they find their past groove. Hanson will be signed to a minor league deal just like they already did this year with Daniel Bard and Armando Galarraga

Man, I remember back when he was in Atlanta. He did pretty great for a few seasons and then it seemed like over one single off-season he just lost everything. Lost velocity, had nothing on his breaking balls, his arm angle was horrible, and his delivery sucked because it was too long and everyone stole all day on him.

I thought he would be a solid back of rotation option for the Angels last year, he was ok for awhile (3.52 in April) and then fell apart

There has never been a pitcher in the history of ever that could pitch a shining 5 and 2/3 inning....only to get blown the frick up with 2 out in the 6th with such consistency.

You nailed it. He is also the king of the 100 pitch 5 inning start.

I believe his issues with pitching have been a medical reason (torn rotator cuff). If it's a minor league deal than fine, but I would be weary of a major league deal.

The Rangers need to add depth to their starting rotation, especially with Holland being out for God knows how long. I'm ok with giving Hanson a one year deal.

Looks like the Rangers signed Tommy to a minor league deal, exactly what I was hoping for. They also control his rights for 2015.

Minor league deal isn't bad, I would have hated a MLB deal lol

Yep. I'm thinking they convert him to a reliever at the minor league level with a chance to be a starter if he somehow has a working shoulder.

Middle reliever (long relief) may be his are destination. Like Phelps with Yankees he is good for 4-5 innings but he just doesn't have stamina to last.
