2000 and 2001 rivals top 100
Scroll down to 2001, but I did notice in 2000 that shrine Carey signed with Tenn. Saban got him in the '01 class.

Damn that Oline class was sick. That's the major difference I see. But I think the explosive talent we signed in this class on both sides of the ball makes up for it.
You know the coaches really hate loing big Cam Rob, as much as I hate to say it

I still believe we greatly aided in UT's slide. They had won the NC in '98, and was poised to go to the championship in the Rose Bowl when we upset them in the SECCG.
Had they beat us, they stood a very good chance to win another NC. UT has to rely on oos recruits and this would have polished their star in the eyes of future recruits. W/O theses top recruits the DECLINE started for Phat Phil.

Phil had 2 of the best coordinators in the country in Chavis and Cutcliff. When Cut left for Ole Miss they became a team that had to rely on defense just too much. Whenever they had an off year on D their team was awful. Then when they got rid of Phil they found out UT wasn't the easy job they thought it was. There just isn't much talent at all that is closer to UT then other big schools and that is tough for almost anyone.

That 2001 talent proves that Louisiana made Saban more than Saban made LSU. How could you NOT win with that talent.

Any good coach could have recruited those players, and those players would have given that good coach an elite status.

We fricking dominated both lines of scrimmage in recruiting in 2001. I guess that's why we won the national championship in 2003. You still win on the lines.

quote:I tend to agree, since DiNardo was not a great coach but certainly turned the tide on the mass exodus of LA talent. Hallman got out of state guys to come, but FSU and others still took the big studs away from LSU during both DiNardo's and Hallman's tenures.
No. LSU does not recruit itself, but a coach did not have to be elite to recruit Louisiana talent to LSU in 2000 and 2001.

Saban took it up a notch, though. Can't deny that.
