I'm thinking more Asians. They don't like to be counted so I think those numbers are skewed.

That median income must count the Mexicans working for free in Houston.

Detroit used to be a booming city too. Come up with an oil alternative, and you got Detroit of the South in Houston.

These Chicago "murder" stats are as ridiculous as New Orleans "murder" stats.

Unless you're trying to buy drugs in a bad area you're in absolutely no risk.

That seems not made up on the spot at all.

Houston has more illegal trafficking of drugs, and women then almost any other city in America. I am not saying it's because of guns laws but you can't just roll your eye at the difference in the murder rate.

quote:

Houston is a major drug distribution center that supplies a vast number of market areas in the United States, including Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, New York, and Philadelphia, with illicit drugs, pri- marily cocaine and marijuana. Houston’s well- developed highway system, established financial infrastructure, racial and ethnic diversity, and large volume of international trade contribute to the region’s role as a major transshipment point for illicit drugs destined for U.S. drug markets and for drug proceeds destined for Mexico. The significant number of drug-related investigations throughout the United States that are linked to the city, includ- ing those in Atlanta, Chicago, Miami, Newark, New Orleans, New York, and St. Louis, further demonstrates Houston’s role as a key national drug distribution and money laundering center.

Except the companies that will come up with and provide that alternative are already headquartered in Houston.

Or do you suppose the government will cure us of our fossil fuel addiction?

Cars are still made, just not in Detroit.

Those demographics aren't right. Shocker. I know. They aren't off by much but they aren't right.

It's so easy to look up accurate stats.

So clearly your first thought was off-base. Obviously something other than the main industry of the city disappearing caused it's collapse. I doubt local politics played just a small part.
