Paul Bettany, best known in the Marvel world for voicing Jarvis, Tony Stark’s helpful A.I. system, will be playing the Vision in Marvel’s “The Avengers: Age of Ultron.”

Production starts next month, with director Joss Whedon and cast members like Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans.

Big fan of Bettany, but as a comic noob, who/what is the Vision?

BOOM!

That's awesome, but also a pretty big spoiler. Either they like Bettany enough to let him run two characters, or, more likely....

Jarvis is Vision.

Vision is so awesome. Just a great character.

Also, Marvel just out-casted, yet again, all of DC and Sony and Fox. Kudos to them.

With either option, Bettany is a great fit.

In this specific universe that Marvel has set up, it makes a TON of sense to run with Jarvis. Bettany has owned that character and made him unique and a lot of fun. Not only that, Tony and Stark Ent. are at the center of the entire world.

I do wonder if Ultron will actually come from Stark enterprises and "Vision/Jarvis" will be the new Mark-80whatever Iron Man Suit that goes rogue with him. It looks likely, but there's always something we may not be thinking about.

Vision, FTMFW!

I was hoping it would be Agent Coulson as Vision, but I'll take Jarvis, which assumes that Tony Stark will build Vision. Awesome. They can go lots of places with this.

So who would be responsible for Ultron?

Wouldn't it make more sense for Stark to be the one that creates Ultron, and Ultron the one that creates Vision?

Will Pym be introduced prior to the next Avengers? He has to build Ultron who builds Vision who marries Wanda "Scarlett Witch" Maximoff. And I wonder who gets to play her?

Unfortunately no. Pym won't be introduced until after Age of Ultron, so it appears that Stark will create Ultron in this one.

mixed feelings

bettany does have the size and physicality to play the part but I always imagined the Vision's voice to be a deeper voice - rather than a helper bot like voice - when I was reading the comics

I assume there is going to be a Scarlet Witch if there is a Vision? They can really do some scary CGI stuff with Vision if they do it right - his physical disruption ability really could be scarier or even lethal on the big screen.

Elizabeth Olsen is Scarlett Witch. James Spader is ultron.
And I'll agree that Jarvis will likely be vision in this universe.

This is great news on the inclusion of Vision and the casting.

Leaving out Vision with Avengers would be almost as bad as leaving out Colossus for Xmen.

This makes sense. Especially if RDJ wants to take a step back. I like the idea of making Jarvis into more of a major character.

How much better is this casting than the ridiculous bullshite that we've gotten with Batman vs Superman?

He's suppose to have chalky white skin for this role. Apparently that's the look they are going for.
