FOB = Forward Operating Base
Just got done talking with him for a little bit while he was visiting us. Really nice down to earth guy, total opposite of his brother and he's well aware of that. We got to talk about a few things:
On Cam Cameron
First I told him how thankful we were for letting him go and he told me your welcome. He knew Cam back from when he was the QBs coach for his brother John at Michigan. Before he hired Cam the Ravens offense was just terrible, but hiring him proved to be a great decision because what he brought to the table did wonders. Before he was let go a lot of the offensive players blamed Cam every time something didn't go right. John and Cam were both in agreement that the players really needed some new energy or a "kick in the arse" as he put it. Letting him go was a real tough decision, but he's very happy to see him do great things at LSU because he's an excellent coach.
On playing his brother in the SB
Before the game, John tried to approach him to shake his hand, but Jim kept avoiding him. So John just started chatting with some of the 49ers players, including the kicker. Next thing you know, Jim comes running up to him telling him to stop trying to "psych out" his kicker. After the game when they were about to shake hands, Jim stuck his elbow out with the hand he was shaking with to kind of push John away who wanted to hug him. Jim shook his head, said "No hugs" and ran off. A couple weeks later, Jim was still bitching about the officiating to John who just smiled and showed him the ring.
On coaching Ray Lewis
Great guy and as most of you know, big personality. But when it comes down to it, there's not a more humble guy out there. He also said Ray is a guy who isn't afraid to come let the coaches know you did something wrong or stupid and that's something he really respects about him.
That's about it, he was only with us for a short while unfortunately and they keep us pretty busy here. He talked about Tomlin stepping on the field during that kickoff and gave the impression he believed there was more to the lights going out during the SB other than just a "fault" in the power circuit or whatever.
