I get that people may have this perception, but I'd bet that Dallas and Austin have just as much crime/poverty.

Houstonites lack the douchiness factor of Dallasites or Austinites.

Dallasites and Austinites, while completely different in their forms of douchiness, are both about on the same level of overall douchiness, if you think about it.

Probably the hundreds of thousands of people from south Louisiana that live there in exile. There are thousands of Katrina evacuees that moved there and never came back as well as tens of thousands of Louisiana born professionals who moved there for their careers.

Austin is more hipster than hippy. Homeless people need to be packed up and sent somewhere but other than that

Both Houston and NOLA are coastal cities with major ports, refineries, chemical plants and heavy industry therefore lots of blue collar workers. NOLA has a much richer culture and history than Houston, so I don't think they your comparisons are all that valid.

I don't think it's anything like NOLA and I've lived in both.

In what perspecive are you comparing them? Demographics? I think the shear size of Houston makes it difficult to compare to just about any aspect of New Orleans.

different people like different things. I love Houston, hate Dallas, and enjoy, but would not want to live in, Austin.
