SPOILERS

The rape story line is just ridiculous. Or really Anna's reaction to the rape. Your reasoning is that "we can't tell anybody bc my husband will kill him and he can't because he's been accused of killing somebody before." How about you tell everybody and the dude get arrested and he get put in jail. It wasn't like Bates was going to murder him on the spot. And this guy has the stones to go upstairs and sit in on the concert. I guess he knows she'll never tell bc he knows Bates background? Then she tells the dude goodbye at the end. C'mon. Also, Bates, your wife's face whole face is beat up, that doesn't happen when you faint.

I haven't posted in a while and apparentkynim bitter and needed to vent BANANA DANCE.

That's what I was thinking too.

I would have to know how that would have been received in that culture before judging that decision too harshly.

I think rape was still frowned upon a bit, even back then.

I bailed last season. Some critic nailed it, the show has experienced a Total Quality Collapse.

I just assumed it was. I'm not up to date on my British "since when did rape become frowned upon?" history though.

Her being totally fine with him getting off Scott free was just ridiculous imo. I don't know why her saying goodbye to him at the end bothered me so much though. I guess it just seems that would be the absolute last thing a person would do after getting raped. Especially since he's trying to rub it in.

I don't doubt that it was. However, in our society we realize how common it is, not sure that was realized then. Also, in our society it is easier to prove and the victim is usually offered more protection.

a lot of this show makes very little sense, like the chauffeur not being fired immediately after his lunatic attack and all of the socialist bs he spews.

it was a good idea(the show) but the writer(s) simply weren't up to it.

Not really.

Even in the US. Marital Rape was legal until the 80s.

Even today, in most cases it is he said/she said. Very hard to prove unless the attacker was brutal.

Lower class citizens probably got short shrift when crimes were committed by Lords and Ladies.

I didn't even finish season 3. The show just ramped up the melodrama and nonsense plots to the point I gave up.

Talk about random

I was thinking they should have just taken a few years off and came back with 2 mini final seasons, 4 episodes per final season. Similarly to what mad men is doing. Assuming there was some way to get Stevens to agree.

even if they didn't call the cops the downstairs crew should have ways for handling that shite. Carson and Hughes should have called a code red and poisoned his arse.
