Would you want the highest top secret clearance if offered?
Posted by Revelator on 2/4/14 at 6:37 am00
If you were offered the highest top secret clearance available for a day that would avail you to every secret performed by our government in the past to present under the condition that you had to keep all the information to yourself, would take it? And if you did take the opportunity, how do you think it would change your life if any?

You would become a libertarian after losing any and all faith that government can form a cohesive, pointed effort on ANYTHING.

People mock and reject higher secrets than those any man made government can offer. It can be dissapointing, yet knowing the truth is never a bad thing.
Unlike TV and movies, that you obviously put a little too much faith in, having any kind of security clearance doesn't entitle you to information held at or below that same level. Having a Top Secret clearance doesn't mean you can access Top Secret or even Secret level information on that merit alone. Chances are you wouldn't learn anything useful in a day anyway.
Hey good job completely dismissing the point of the exercise and taking the opportunity to educate us on the nuances of USGOV security clearances.
This is where you tell everyone how high your clearance is right?

The premise was flawed and Clames pointed it out, besides a clearance you also have to have a need to know.
Adding a bit of reality to this forum is more important than imaginary, pointless, flawed lame arse scenarios IMHO.

Yeah, it was a hypothetical CT. I understand that what is is asking is silly to those of us who even roughly understand how the system works. He probably doesn't understand it, and it isn't important to the hypothetical scenario.

I agree that reality checks are important.

This..I have a Ts/SCI, but it doesn't mean I can call and demand secret documents that have nothing to do with my position

quote:It would be impossible for anyone to review even a fraction of the information that gets collected. All you could hope to see would be the conclusions other humans had drawn from the information. And we know those conclusions have been flawed on many occasions. To me the coolest bit about this fantasy would be learning how our government was collecting information rather than the information itself.

Speaking from personal experience, classifying information was done to protect the source(s) of the information rather than to prevent disclosure of the information. The information was frequently available from open sources, but the reliability of the information lacked bona fides.

Nope, something you don't need to know. Good job on creating a shitty thread based on your Hollywood understanding of security clearances.
Man, you are being a real d+_khead on this one! Who pisses in your cereal every day. you know exactly what he meant and so do all of us.
Where does he say he knows anything special about levels of security clearance?
As he was alluding to, you just wanted to thump your chest and and subtly brag you have some kind of clearance.

I had that for four years of my service in the military. Not all it is cracked up to be.
My clearance include initials I am not even supposed to publicize...
I would take it, and be disappointed after learning that much time, money, and effort is expended by the government to keep classified a lot of mundane information that is of little interest to anyone, or already exists in the public domain.

No, because the next day I would be a liability and therefore have an accident.
